The other day I drove into one of the parks near me to do some morel hunting and as went by one of the beaches I realized that the water line was way down! So I went home and got my equipment so that I could detect it. I am not sure how long the water has been down but I have not seen any detectorists or dig holes so I am thinking that I am the only one taking advantage of this. Every 10 years or so they Park lowers the water so that they can work on the dam. Back in 2014 this happened and it was awesome! Lots of silver and some gold and lots of silver coins from the 1950's.
Below is from the last 3 days at 2 beaches. It appears that the only signals are the very low conductors and the very small items like earrings and the earring clasps.
I have found 3 silver earring backs marked 925 and 1 silver ring. For the gold I found a 10k ring that is super tiny. It does test at 10k. Then a Chanel earring that is marked 21k. It passes the 18k acid test but not the 22k acid test BUT my google research tells me that it should have a "CC" logo as the hall mark...maybe that hallmark is on the back part? So I hope it is the real deal but I am not totally convinced yet.
The cross I found yesterday and the back mark states "916”I think. It is a bit banged up. I assume the 916 means 91.6%pure gold which equates to just barely under 22k! So I tested it and it passes the 18k test with no issues and the 22k acid does mostly eat it up after about 5 minutes.
Beach detecting season is starting early for me and I am not going to complain!
