Got of off work an hour early today and went to a local park. Hunted the gravel alongside the asphalt entrance road. Got 7 clad coins for a total of 40 cents. Also got three old Wheaties. They were 1938, 1919 and 1910. The highlight of the day was a 1935 Merc. <: It was only 5 inches deep but it was a tough dig in compacted gravel. Happy hunting to all! :beerbuddy:

i agree those gravel roads are tough as they get for me i broke a trowel on a site like that.
those wheats, are they interesting? what i mean is sometimes i find them and they have beautiful coloration and swirling shades of copper. got any pictures? your hand must be hurting from slamming the shovel into the earth. ouchies but totally worth it.

I can't agree more, a compacted gravel road is very tough digging. At least you were rewarded for your efforts. Some nice early wheats and a merc. Congrats
Congrats! A friend of mine gave me permission to hunt an old warehouse one time. The whole parking area was compacted gravel. I went to Lowes and got one of those small hand picks. Took it and put the pointed end in a vice and strightened it out some. Works great. You just have to watch your eyes. You will shoot your eye out with the gravel, Ha!
