I found this button along with several other buttons, a hair pin and a human tooth!

Everything was encrusted with tiny weeny little pebble type rocks. I soaked the huge (heavy) button in olive oil for a few days and used some steel wool to reveal an Eagle button, very similiar to the one I found last year (next to a chimney/foundation by the Ky River- I shared story about that one). It is thicker in size and has a different backmark that I can't read (yet!) Does anyone know alot about buttons?

I saw that JTGold and IllDigger found little cufflink like these... Mine are about the size of a half dollar. I searched through some links and couldn't find any with the sun-shaped/stars above the eagle's head. Should I use a wire brush to help reveal the backmark? Soak it longer and use more steel wool? Maybe a wooden toothpick?

very nice button Tana it is a great seal Army button , yours is a very early example that had no piched rim and it would be closer to the 1902 date when they started using these type.

Thanks Dan! You are the king |) of relic knowledge lol

I was hoping it said US on the shield- do you see it? I'm afraid to mess w/it too much, just let it soak for a while. What suggestions for cleaning Dan?
