had the chance to detect a house built in 1669 today but only found 9 wheat pennys and a lead horse but i did find this....i think its a lock or somthing but whats doing my head in is it has a patent on the back and it reads.....PAT may 1671 :huh: can this be right ?.

it acturly reads for some reason PAT ....f....MAY.....1671 , what the f is for i dont know , didnt thay used to use f for s back in the day ?

i don't think they used Patent dates that far back Lee , not here on this side of the pond anyways.
i would think the casting would be extrememely more basic and crude if it was that early ,
it looks more Victorian era than early colonial . maybe a lock plate of some kind to a door , or something like that.

it's most likely pat date may 16...71 which siginifies 1871 .

Thats a nice find. Its always good when you find something that you don't know wlat it is, cause its fun trying to find out what they are. :)
