View Full Version : Silver / Gold? What is this? Locket with holes?
What is this? Based on the color of the metal and the lack of tarnish or corrosion I am guessing silver and gold? Help!!! I feel like this might be something good!
The back of it has broken loose, it looks like it was dented or crushed at some point. I'm not sure how it was attached in the first place.
oh heck if i'm reading this right it this makes me excited!!!

I can't help with the ID but it is a very Interseting object.
I think it is a perfume locket (a vinaigrette) made in England by Joseph Willmore in Birmingham England in 1810.

Certainly looks silver, that's for sure. Nice find :clapping:
hey Z , i believe your right on just what the locket is as it seems to look similar to a lot i've seen (they vary a bit but yours fits right in there) the letter m is the year and according to the silver link to British marks it was made in 1810. its a very interesting and cool find , congrats and thanks for showing it .

Thanks Del! I can't figure out why there would not be the usual marks to indicate metal and purity though... any thoughts? I can't imagine the piece is not silver and gold or heavy gold plate based on the lack of corrosion., but if that's the case, why would they not stamp it?
A piece like this that I can date to 1810 is a pretty nice find for me. It's much older than my oldest silver coin. I wonder what the value of this piece might be, or if it's worth seeing if a jeweler can repair it?

It looks like you have a Silver Viaigrette, the Anchor is the Birmingham Hallmark, JW might be Joseph Willmore who made Viagrettes in the year 1823..1843 thumbsup01
