 Oh well, I guess I shouldn't complain. It was the only thing that saved me from the SDHOS today. :-\ It showed up as 12-41 on the E-Trac and I was expecting a wheat cent. I was very surprised when I saw a silver rim. I was even more surprised when I saw that half the coin was missing. :hairpulling:
I tried a couple of new hunting spots in some towns I've never hunted at before. Both of them were a bust. I did manage one really toasted Indian Head at the first site but that was it.
So I ended up back at a familiar site, an old ball park that has produced in the past. It was here that I got the Barber Half Dime, a 1902 Indian Head, a Buffalo Nickel that is 1920 I think, and a few wheat cents. Kind of a sparse hunt today but I still enjoyed myself. The sun was shining bright and the birds were singing. thumbsup01
Here is the toasted Indian Head I found at the first site. I don't know if I will ever get a date off of it, but it looks like that last digit might be a 1.

Tony, when I read the title of your post, I was so happy for you!! Then came the big shock. :behave: I'm glad you got some oldies though. The toasted injun is probably 1903 since that seems to be our most common coin these days! I hit that old farm today and all I got for 5 hours of swinging (besides a sore arm) was two crusty wheats and a barely recognizable 1885 IH. Too bad that barber is an S mintmark. Those are soooo very rare on our side of the Mississippi River. Best wishes buddy and HH, Dave.

You joker! You had us all going! :bop: lol lol What a shame that someone was cruel to that Barber dime. \:[ But at least you got a piece of it. :happydance01: Nice that the Buffalo nickel has a readable date. thumbsup01

Did you try cleaning up the IH?
Yes, I scrubbed it with a toothbrush then with a scouring pad. That black stuff on it is hard as a rock. I'm pretty sure the last digit of the date is a 1 and because of the location of it (small date) I think it's either 1871 or 1881. Both of the Indian Heads are currently soaking in olive oil.

Silver, IH's, Buffalo and wheat cents make for a great time. A nice bunch of keepers Tony. :clapping:

Come on now.... *taps foot* I belive its more like .6667 67% OR 2/3 OF A DIME....

You never cease to amaze! Congrats on the half dime. It's better than the 20 cents worth of clad quarter i found last year. Try soaking that buffalo in soy sauce for about an hour the date will show better. If you have steel shot to tumble with that works to clean it up after the soy sauce. Great hunt Tony!! :perfect10:
