Full Metal Digger

Hey diggers,
I got permission to hunt a couple old farm houses. One is abandoned and dates to about 1890. The lot was all overgrown with trees and briars so swinging was tough. Lots of scrap copper in what used to be the front yard. My third signal was a penny signal at about 6 inches. What a pleasant surprise to see an old silver ring pop out! The pattern on it reminds me of those old silver thimbles with the forget-me-nots and wedding bells. I found one just like it on the internet that said it was from the 1940s. Found a few stinking lincolns from the 60's but no silver coins.
The next day, I hunted an old field next to an old farm house that dates back to at least 1874. Once again, a deep penny signal (12-42) and out pops a silver crucifix! Whoa, it's marked Sterling and FRANCE on the back and has one of those hallmark cartouches. By the way, in case you didn't know (I didn't know it either), French sterling is actually 950 not 925.
Later, I went to my old park that I have been hitting for almost 2 years now. For the first time ever, I saw someone else's plugs! I can't believe someone is hitting MY park! At least he did a good job of filling in his holes. Anyway, I got a strong 12-12 at 4 inches deep. I cut my plug and scooped out the dirt. My pinpointer was giving a strong reading in the bottom of the hole and I happen to notice a Buffalo nickel also lying on the dirt pile. So I dug a little more and got the second buffalo out of the hole. I could actually see the discoloration where they had overlapped in the ground. My first ever double buff! One is 1920 and the other is 1924.
A few wheaties and a toasted 1902 injun rounded out the weekend. Thanks for looking and here's some pics. Best wishes and HH, Dave.
