What an exciting afternoon I had! :happydance01: After taking care of some business, I was able to sneak out for some afternoon detecting. I had been eager to hit a small park that had seemed promising. Once there I detected for some time, but the park was being stingy with its treasures. >:/ So I took off to another site. Not counting the 30 minutes to get to the location, I had just over two hours left to detect, so I wasted no time once I was there. I grabbed my E-Trac, gloves, and digger, and began to 'sing' to the ground to spare some change. lol

The section I was working had plenty of surface targets, but I just concentrated on the deeper signals. After about 15 minutes I had my first good sounding signal, a deep one for sure, with a small pinpoint signature. I cut a plug, and after digging just over 10 inches deep I retrieved a large copper, a Draped Bust it looked like. I wasted no time admiring it though, and quickly placed it in my pouch. It was now time to slowly work the area in a grid pattern.

Long story short, by the time I had to leave, the site yielded me eight coppers, a 1908-D Barber dime, a 1939-S mercury dime, a 1907 Indian Head cent, and a few wheat cents. :happydance01:

The eight coppers. The oldest is a 1783 Nova Constelatio, blunt rays variety. :shocked04: Two of the coppers are Draped Bust large cents. I'm barely able to make out the date on one - 1798. I also dug a King George Copper, and four other large cents, three of them dated 1810, 1838, 1848.

The 1783 Nova Constelatio. It's beat up, but still pretty. :smitten:

The King George Copper. I can't make out a date.

These are the three other large cents where I can make out the date.

Thank you Mike! :beerbuddy:

I'm not a relic/cellar hole hunter. I'm a park hunter. All of the coppers I have found are dug from public parks and such sites, not cellar holes or private properties.

This is not my first multi-copper day though. I have had several such days. Below are a few of the fun hunts I have had.

:wow: What a hunt! As I have said many times. You guys really need to be thankful for the area you live in. To be able to pull this date of a coin from the ground is outstanding. I can't even get an 1800 coin. I have come close, and I know I will sooner or later. But....one from the 1700's, Will never happen. Congrats on a great hunt and some sweet finds.

Another incredible Angel hunt. :)

I looked up the 1783 Nova Constaellatio out of curiosity. As you know it is an extremely rare coin. There are very few of them available anywhere.

I see too where there were some very rare (like less than 10) versions that were silver rather than copper.

That is a find of a lifetime as far as I am concerned, Angel. Very nice :perfect10:

I'm always amazed at what you find in those parks. I wish we just had areas that old around here. Your parks are older than most of our first settlements. Congrats on a fantastic hunt. :wow:
