Full Metal Digger

1st Hunt:
I ended up hunting an empty corner lot where some old homes used to stand. The ground was really soft and the dirt very black. Just the kind of yard that will hold some goodies. I spent an hour there. I found 2 wheaties, a couple clad, and 6 nickels! When I find lots of nickels like that, it kind of leads me to think it has been hunted before, but the guy was discriminating out pulltabs.
After digging a few stinkin lincolns at 4 inches or less, I got a choppy signal at 8 inches. It sounded like it might be an indian head penny. I dug down and found a tiny silver rectangle. I recognized it as being a miniature First Lieutenant's bar. It also has a couple tiny silver links of chain showing that it had been suspended from something else (I thought maybe charm bracelet). I filled in my hole and started swinging the coil again and immediately got another signal about 4 inches away with the same tone and depth. I dug down and pulled out a miniature set of WWII pilots wings and I could tell the lieutenant's bar had been originally attached to this item. Across the back of the wings, I could make out the word STERLING.
A short while later, I was over by the sidewalk and I could tell it was a very old sidewalk. I decided to work along the sidewalk to see what folks might have dropped while passing by. My first hit was a 12-46 at 6 inches. I had my hopes up for some silver but instead popped out a clad quarter. A few minutes later, I got a 12-48 mixed in with some canslaw. I wasn't sure if the canslaw was making the high pitch or if a silver coin was mixed in with it. I cut my plug and flipped it over, and I could see a big silver ring hanging from the bottom of the plug! It looks a bit older than the silver rings I usually find so it may be an antique. It has two black onyx hearts on the sides.

2nd Hunt:
I went back to the 1910 park where I had been finding silvers and wheaties on the old ball fields. This trip did not disappoint! I spent 5 hours working my way up and down the field and ended up with 6 silver dimes!

3rd Hunt:
Brian and I headed out to our favorite East St. Louis park today. We got there about 7 am and hunted til noon. Thankfully, the big rain held off for us. We each pulled over 100 clad coins as well as the usual wheat pennies and assorted other oldies.
I was grid searching out in leftfield and got a SOLID 01-49 at about 4 inches on my e-trac. It was repeatable and very clean sounding. I thought for sure it must be trash but since the signal is so clean, I'm going to dig it. I cut my plug and got a nice signal on my pinpointer. I dug down another inch and popped out a big coin. My first thought was Sacajawea dollar. Then I saw the words ONE CENT staring back at me. Holy cow, a large cent!
I don't know how all the other MDers have missed it but maybe they thought it was trash too. I also found 3 silver dimes and a nice looking sterling men's ring. The ring was in right field about 7 inches deep. It rang up as 08-48 so I was all excited thinking I was about to get my first silver quarter out of that park. I was just as pleased to get a silver ring though.
