Met up with Bob & Rosie for a hunt at an old city park est in early 1900's. They are family friends of mine whom I've known many years. Bob just retired and received Whites Coinmaster as retirement gift :clapping:
It was a beautiful sunny day, yet a bit chilly... I took a lot of pics, they tell most of the story :)

Thanks for the pics Tanacat. We had a great time and we learned alot. It's funny that I remembered the day as cloudy, I guess because it started that way in the morning in Winchester. I must have been so engrossed and having such a great time that I missed the sunshine :dontknow:. It certainly did turn out beautiful.
Oh by the way I'm claiming half of the ring because I had to dig it up after Rosie got the signal  :teasing: lol. Of course you know which one of us owns the ring now (it wouldn't have fit me anyway). I got the quarter.
Great first hunt. Looks like you all had a great time. Thats what its all about. Enjoying this wonderful world God created for us to play in, and doing it with great friend. A touch of silver aint bad either!

Is the cat charm bracelet silver too?
Unforturnately it's not :crying02: I thought maybe the 925 or sterling stamp was missing, but looking under a loupe I can faintly see the copper.
Thanks everyone for the great responses and welcoming my friend to the wonderful world of AD :) Hey Bob -have you been hunting anymore/ this weekend?? :dontknow:

Hi Tana: Oh ObiWan of the Dirt, |)
I was out in the yard yesterday practising with various coins trying to learn more about my machine and using the smart notch feature to be able to see nickels among the trash.
We went to Richmond Friday to the coin shop and I bought a trowel like yours. We also ate Indian food at Masala's, Yumm. Rosie was in Lexington yesterday and I had her pick up one of the cheap Harbor Freight pinpointers. In air I was able to tune the sensitivity to almost 1 1/2 inches. I am hoping to use that until I can get a Garrett.
After several calls over a couple of days I was able to secure permission to hunt some parks. One park is the venue for large outside concerts and for fireworks and the other is old and historic. I am still trying to connect with the folks that run the county fair grounds. I'll contact you to see if you want to hunt those sites with me. Then I can watch the coin vacum cleaner work again. :perfect10:
So I feel like I am making some progress. Now it is raining of course, and we have a list of things to do (I never knew retirement would be so busy). We are not available all of next week. I'll check with you when available.

So you met Alan the owner of the store :) He is the prez of our local club. Great guy! Hope you can make it to the next club meeting- it will be at a local dive for Christmas dinner w/raffles and hopefully a speaker. Last year we had presentation by staff member from nearby civil war battlefield/museum.

:beerbuddy: Cheers to caps and pull tabs. I think that's what the folks were doing a lot of under those trees over the years rofl

Thank you! I have to admit that first pic of the castle is pretty cool! It's got some wild colors going on there and esp the ghost in the trees lol

Tana, I grew up in that park. Played baseball, football, and swam at the original pool for years. I also rolled down the steep hills in empty trash cans. It was fun back then. I used my first metal detector to hunt in that park and around those trees that Bob was hunting. I still have family and friends in the neighborhood. I hope you guys enjoyed that park half as much as I used to. If ya have any questions about the park or the Lexington area, give me a shout.

So that's where all the really OLD coins are- in your collection! 8/ lol
That's neat that you grew up there. I lived a couple blocks away on Highlawn Ave for a year-I think it was 1976 & spent a lot of time at the park. Perhaps we played together as kids :) Were you there around that time? I would have been 8 yrs old...
