2nd Day with Etrac

2nd time with my Etrac. Went to a very old ball park with zero luck. I booked out of there after about an hour. I went to another park I had not been to. It took me about 30 minutes and started to find some things. With 7 hours on the machine, it is just starting to speak to me. Found the Rosie by an old tree at 4 inches and after rechecking the hole, I get 32-35 everywhere. I thought to myself, most other machines would have never got that one. 5 minutes later I found the Merc. The other silver was at 8 inches and sounded what some would call iffy. I heard a high pitch and a looked down at 15 45, then 12 46, then 11 42. I pulled a nail out first. Rechecked with my ProPointer and found what I thought is was aluminum. Then I saw the small hole with what appears to be, correct me if I'm wrong, a pressed barber dime? Makes 4 silvers in 2 outings. I love the etrac, and can't wait to get out again. HH everyone.

Some really nice finds there. I have been using a Fisher F4. I really want to upgrade. I am conflicted between the e-trac and the F75. How difficult is the e-trac to someone that is tech challanged? In your opinion? Again, congrats on the finds.

The holed coin is definitely an old dime. The Seated and Barber dimes have almost identical backs. Could be either one. :happydance01:

The dime can't be a barber as they don't have the leaves on the back with words around the edge.
Could be an old (1837 - 1859) seated by the looks of it.

I believe it is a 1796 or 1797 Draped Bust Dime with a Small Eagle Reverse. For one thing, it is slightly bigger than a normal dime. Draped Bust dimes were 19mm in diameter, dimes from 1828 and after were 17.9mm.

Here is a photo of the reverse of a 1796 & 1797 draped bust dime, no other dime has the same reverse. It looks like a match to me!

After talking with Goes4Ever, he has confirmed it is a Draped Bust Dime. :omg:

Wish it had more detail, but it is what it is.....

It's still an incredible find, to say the least! And you can narrow it down to two years, it has to be 1796 or 1797.
