This morning I drove about an hour south of here to hunt with a detectorist from another forum. We tried 3 different spots near his home town and found a lot of clad, but old coins were elusive. The only relatively old coin I could muster was a 1952 Jefferson Nickel. I also found a ring that turned out to be silver plated junk, and he found a .925 silver toe ring. Nothing too eventful, but it was nice meeting a new person to hunt with.
On my way home I decided that I just couldn't bear the Silverless Drive Home of Shame so I decided to stop at my lucky school one more time to see if the recent rains have made it possible to find more there. As it turns out, the rains must have helped because I made some halfway decent finds!
I'm starting to get a lot better at finding nickels. Right off the bat at the school I found a war nickel, which was a first with my E-Trac. Not three minutes later and about 5 feet away I found a Buffalo Nickel, which was another first with the E-Trac. I ended up finding a total of 10 nickels today which is the most I've ever found in a day by far.
I also pulled three more silver dimes from the school which was a nice surprise. I was starting to wonder if I had found all of the silver there in previous hunts, but the rain and moist soil helped to expose more. I ended up with two Mercs and a Rosie.
As I pulled up to the school today and parked my car, I noticed a sidewalk tearout in front of an old house that is across the street. They had cut down two huge old trees and took out about 20 feet of the old sidewalk. Right before it got too dark I went over to the sidewalk tearout. I only got one coin signal, but it was a very consistent 12-13 and ended up being a 1909 V Nickel which completed the nickel trifecta. Not as exciting as a trifecta of silver coins, but hey, I'll take it.
I went back to the school yard and found a small sterling silver ring right before it got too dark to hunt. The silver dimes gave me my 49th, 50th, and 51st silver coins of the year (52 if you count the war nickel) which put me over my goal of 50.
Here are my finds for the day:
