First finds of 2010

Well since Im new to the site I thought I would start with my first finds of the year. Hunting weather has not been good here in KY so far. Last sat. was about the only day not frozen, snowing, or raining. I hunted one of the local colleges (EKU). Everyone that has ever had a detector in this area has hunted this area of about 100 yards squar. I alone have hunted there at least 50 times but it still spits out coins. I hunted with a 6 coil and had my RX gain at 6, Dis, at 77. The 1913 P Barber half came in loud at 7.5 to 7 3/4 deep. LIB is all that can be read in the headband. The 1945 Walker was 5 on its edje. The musket ball was around 8 and came in a solid 52. These are good depths for a 6 coil and a very very hunted area. Thanks for looking.

Nice finds! I am glad to hear that there are actually old coins in the ground in this state :)

Has anyone ever given you a hassle when detecting EKU?

Have you had much luck with parks?
 
Thanks, The grounds people a EKU are some of the nicest people I have talked with while hunting. They dont mind as long as you fill in the hole good. They have even let me in the gates to hunt around the main football field. Some people are real nice about it if you ask first.
 
SWEET SMELLIN' SILVER lol gotta love them large silvers. I love it when you see the edge sitting in the pile of dirt. You just know it ain't a quarter :yes: Nice start to hopefully a great year. Congrats on two beauties.

:yes: Congrats Kevin!!! Such a great story... I remember seeing people metal detecting in the ravine when I was going to college there in the mid 80's!

You didn't mention that you found them (both of them?) next to the little creek that runs through there. I'd like to think the 1913 was lost by my grandma or grandpa as they jumped across the creek headed to class back in 1935 or so... They both went to college at EKU and courted there in that ravine where you found it!
 
Just wondering- you know how antiques are considered 'antiques' after they're 100 yrs old. How is it with coins? Here in 3 yrs will that 1913 become more valuable at 100 yrs old:huh:

The word antique is just a general term. Cars can be antique after say 25 years, furniture may well be 100 years, my wife says I'm antique and I ain't 50 yet lol So I guess something is antique, when someone says it is :yes: Coins on the other hand can be valuable right when they are minted (like an error coin) or they can not be very valuable (like some Spanish reales). Coins go by scarcity, and public appeal and demand.
