Saturday, October 8 hunt with DaddyDigger

Today I had my first ever hunt with another forum member! Thanks to DaddyDigger (Dave) for making the long drive up and meeting me in Decatur, IL. I had never hunted in this city before, so after meeting and making our introductions we headed to a park that looked old. Dave made a really nice find, but I will let him tell about his day.

We started hunting about noon and went until 4:30 with a short break. I found a Merc dated 1939-S and a Rosie dated 1948. Right before we left I found a spill of 5 wheat cents all on top of each other in the same hole, with the newest being from 1927. They were under a very large sycamore tree and unfortunately they are pretty toasted.

It was a very fun day and it was nice having someone there to share finds with in real time. Dave is going to stay in the area tonight and we may hunt together again tomorrow.

Here is the first silver coin I found, the 1939-S Merc:

Here is my second silver of the day, the 1948 Rosie:

And here is one of the lone wheats I found, hiding in the bottom of my plug:

Here are the 5 wheat cents from the spill, including two that are still stuck together:

Thanks for looking and happy hunting!

Can't complain about a hunt like that! \:hammer: Sweet! :clapping:
It's cool to meet up with a forum member ain't it! I bet it was a blast hunting with Dave.
Glad you each were able to score some silver too! thumbsup01 That even sweetens the pot a little more! :happydance01:
Congrats

Great recoveries. It sure is fun to be out with a hunting buddy digging in the dirt. Makes for a time you will treasure. Congrats

Nice hunt, it's always nice to get out with others for a little hunt! Congrats on the silver and wheats!

Tony, nice hunting. Those 2 silvers are pushing you closer to that goal of 50. I have been able to watch some of daddydiggers videos and he does quite well as a MDer. 5 wheats in one hole, wow happydance02Congrats on all of your recoveries

Thanks for the nice comments, everyone. I did get to hunt with Dave for a couple of hours again today before he had to head home. We plan on hitting these parks again after we get some rain as the ground is still very hard and dry.

For the first hour or so today we hunted at the same park as yesterday. We both got a Merc there today. After a while we headed to a different park where Dave hunted the tot lot and I hunted along the sidewalk. At this park I found two wheats and the 1905 Indian Head and Dave found a ton of clad. The ground in this park was very hard and the digging was tough. We'll hit it again after the ground softens up.

Here is the 1941 Merc I found today:

Here is the 1905 Indian Head I found at the second park:

It was such a pleasure to meet you Tony and I really enjoyed our hunts at the parks. Congrats on the silvers, wheaties, and the 1905 IH. Also, thanks for buying me a steak dinner! What a guy! He meets me for MDing, lets me find some good keepers, and then treats me to a steak dinner! Diggers, it don't get any better than that. :wow: I look forward to getting back up there when the rains come. Best wishes and HH, Dave.
