***UPDATE*** Took it to my coin dealer and had it acid tested... BIG FAT FAKE!!!! I guess I found it too soon after it was dropped and it didn't have time to tarnish yet. This just hasn't been my year for fakes! Win some, lose some... I just seem to be losing them all this year... Sorry folks!!
Today started out rather lackluster... I hunted for a couple of hours at my favorite park that has produced quite a bit of silver for me over the last couple of years... I was just about to finish up and head home, so I decided to go over a spot that has produced over 20 silver coins for me so far this year. It sets right in front of an old bathroom/concession stand. I swung a few times near the entrance of the bathrooms and right in front of me at the edge of the grass I saw something sparkle... I couldn't believe my eyes!!! There sat this BIG gold chain...Please be a mark...please be a mark...!!! Flipped over the clasp and there it was 14K !!! Wooohoo!! I took a quick video of it there (I'll have to post later) and immediately quit hunting and had to get home to weigh it. It came in at a whopping 47 grams!!!! This thing is heavy. Prior to this one my biggest gold chunk was 19 grams (spinner ring). The park that I found it in had a Homecoming Festival last weekend. I totally wasn't expecting this. I did the calculations and it came to melt of $1,573 this afternoon's prices!!! Here's the pics!

Just passed the magnet test (NO STICK)! I dont' have a gold test kit...don't find enough to use one unfortunately..lol It feels very dense and I think the weight seems legit. Inside the clasps, there is an actual gold brazing and it is not clamped. The inside of the links show no signs of color wear-off. and I can remove any crud on it with my fingernail that was in between links and it shines nicely.

GREAT FIND! Congratulations!!
I would take that puppy into the first pawn shop I could find tomorrow and have them test it. Many of them will still do it for free, some might charge a buck or two.

Awwwww Brian!!! That just stinks buddy. Well, get back out there and make it true. Great post with a sad ending. That would have been a nice chunk of change. Sounds like your doing great on Silver though.

Hey Brian,
You can get acid testing kits on eBay for around $12. The one I got cost $14 and has acids for 10k, 14k, 18k, 22k, silver, platinum and an acid neutralizer. It has been dead on with every test since I always take my gold and silver to my neighborhood pawn shop to verify.
Sorry about the disappointment. The low has to be equal to the high you experienced when you saw it. There will be others, tho ...

It's not that bad... I'd rather be happy for a day than to be not happy at all! When I took it to him he tests it for free... he said when he scratched it Scratches like gold...OOOHhhh... :smitten: Then it did the magic disappearing act! >:{

it's gotta get better Bri! keep your chin up and coil to the ground man ;)
I would have it double checked! I've had items tested before and been told they were not gold when in fact they were! It's possible it was tested with a higher strength acid OR it's possible it's a lower karat gold than it's stamped with.

I would have it double checked too. However, it does look like a Ganster Necklace. maybe you will find the dudes grill. lol

Yes! Have it double checked- it can't hurt. I'll be rooting for you thumbsup01
They didn't tell you they'd throw it out for you after they tested it, right? :huh: lol

Funny you should say that... When I sat down there was a smaller necklace laying there. He said he just tested that one for a guy and it was fake too. The guy threw it at him and told him to keep it! He scratched the clasp..is that normal? I need to get my own kit darnit!
