A buddy of mine invited me out yesterday to an 1800's house he got permission to do.
Found my first spanish silver. A 1782 reale (I think it's a 1/2 reale..it's a little smaller than a dime). Felt great to finally find something so nice.
Also dug my best condition LC. And a couple of buttons and buckles.

The large cent definitely held up very well, and it should clean up nicely too. The old Spanish silver is pure gravy. :clapping: Excellent finds! :beerbuddy:

Thanks! It still has the dirt on it cause I'm afraid to touch it. Bet I could get it to clean up a little better but how? Just soap and water and/or a touch of vaseline?

Very Nice. I would be like you, pretty much afraid that I would mess it up big time. I would do some asking around. I'm sure some of the guys and girls here that have been doing it for many years will give you some good advice. Super find and that goes for both coins. :perfect10:

I would leave it as is for now, at least until you have a good idea as to what method would work best. Just my humble opinion, but I would suggest that no water or heated peroxide be used. Instead try a coin conditioner, such as Blue Ribbon Coin Conditioner or Coin Care. Gently swabbing a moistened Q-Tip over the coin, doing so several times and with a fresh Q-Tip each time, will remove most if not all of the soil on the coin.

that LC looks good enough just to use a dry soft toothbrush on to get the dirt off, then give a thin film of vaseline.congrats on a fantastic hunt!

What a nice combination of silver and copper :clapping: That makes your month right there thumbsup01 I agree, don't mess with it until you are sure you have a good method. Angels treatment works nicely. So does dry brushing it and applying a renaissance wax. If you choose to try any kind of cleaning method, try it on a dirty wheat first. Great finds!! :peace:
