This morning I went to an old church dating back to the late 1700's I've been hunting for about 2 years. It's right around the corner from where I live- nice and convenient

Last week a woman who works at the office came out to see what I'd found (old rosette and 1949 rosie). She was intrigued and mentioned that there was an old house site right there on the corner, maybe I should look there.

8/   lol Yes, that sounds great-thanks!

I've avoided that area for a long time because it was so close to a busy 4 lane highway, thus pretty loud... but thanks to my wireless headphones didn't have to deal with that today.

I quickly found remnants of the old brick house, lots of china, copper fittings and pipe  a 1947 dog tax tag, a metal plate belonging to Mr Chas J Rettig w/address that I'm going to try and hunt down & 1927 Bulova watch... I was expecting some early 1900's silver but whoa and behold I found a 1838o (no stars variety) Liberty Seated Dime! :happydance01: My oldest silver thus far! :beerbuddy:

It was only about 3 deep and VDI of 54/68/72/76 it jumped around so much I almost didn't dig it- it was a wierd signal /low #'s for a silver dime  But then I've only dug one other seated dime. I remember that one surprised me also...

Here are some pics of my adventure :)

:beerbuddy: thanks! I like your post- very creative :) The only other low mintage coin I've found is a 1864L IH

I looked up Chas Rettig and think I found him: Born Feb 8, 1875 Died Sept 1, 1968 from Hamilton Co, Ohio. He was 93 yrs old and his SS# 296-22-0841 The internet is amazing :shocked04:stretcher:

Very nice coin. I notice that it was vertical in the plug. I know when I dug the standing liberty it was vertical and drove my detector crazy. I had a heck of a time just pin pointing it. Great find, and in amazing shape. <:

Just a spectacular seated dime, Tana! I am very happy for you! A find like that would make my year! I wouldn't sell it but that's just me, I'm a hopeless packrat. It would bring a smile to my face every time I looked at it.

I'm not sure if I'll ever find anything that cool but I'm going to keep trying!

Congrats on the wonderful find! :clapping:

Very nice coin. I notice that it was vertical in the plug.

8/ You're right- I bet that's why it was all over the place! I'm pretty new to this... (2 yrs) I've prob missed quite a few coins on their sides :crying02:

I tend to dig just the good solid signals, even if they are prob pop tabs or zilcolns. Could be gold rings or IHs! I need to learn my V3i better... keep meaning to read more and try some different programs

That Seated is sure a beauty! Congrats on a great find!

Thanks! It's my second one ever  And still haven't found a Barber :-\ Lots of mercs though!

Thanks Tony! I see your goal of the year :) I am a hopeless packrat too. I've never sold any of my MD finds or any of my arrowheads from 20 yrs of hunting either

I'm working on selling my children's stuff on CraigsList now, it feels so good to simplify!

Now that's a hunt to remember!
I have yet to find any 1800's silver let alone a rare seated. You hit the jackpot!

Beautiful coin Tana well deserved find. That plate with a name is very likely a old charge plate for a dept store or someplace similar. That is the way they looked you presented it like you used to do with a charge card and they made an imprint.

Thanks, this is only my 2nd 1800's silver - the other is a seated dime (1877cc). It sure is a rush, makes you want more lol I love the large cents, only found 2 of those as well (1820 and 1833) I love the old stuff... Good luck to you in your next hunt!

Ahhhh, I was wondering what it was... I bet you're right. I plugged in BCA and so many things came up!
