I forgot to take my camera with me- the place is beautiful and secretive in our community. Rich in history- 2 roads are named after this place... I will take my camera when I go back!
5 silvers! Mercs are 1917,1941D& 1944. The '48 washington and '44 merc were silver spill And 5 foreign coins! The 4 Italian coins were in the same hole- very exciting, they just kept popping out happydance02 All of the latter were 1922-1924. The previous owners travelled extensively. I love the British East Africa coin. By far my favorite :happydance01: I had fun taking various pics of my finds lol

:cheering: This is GOLD!!! Thick plated, but very heavy~ anyone know what it is? It is very intricately carved or stamped and looks hand done... I'm thinking maybe part of a cane handle or umbrella handle? Maybe an old fancy cork/ stopper...

You know, I bet you are absolutely right Tim! I heard from the yard maintenance guys that the owner has a big trunk of stuff from East Africa... I'm hoping to get to know her and hear the history of the place in her own words.

What a fun assortment of awesome coinage. To make a great hunt even better,

What a great day digging for you - thanks for all the pics for us.
The old guys here in the s west sometimes call your st lib quarter a cowboy quarter. If you turn the eagle upside down & hold your thumb over it's body then the wings resemble a pair of chaps.

If it's not the end of a walking stick or cane, then maybe it's the end of a fancy curtain rod? :thinkingabout:
What a great hunt! I bet you can't wait to get back!

VERY nice finds! You did really awesome. Did you notice the 1924 2 Lire has something in common with our Mercury dimes? Thanks for sharing, I really enjoyed your post. HH!

Yes! I noticed that... and was wondering where it originated from historically. Prob tells all about it in our Red Book. Do you know?
