Early this morning I met up with George (coinnut) to detect at a nearby site from where he had recently picked up two large cents and a mercury dime. The site is relatively small, but the potential for more keepers was there. Once I began to detect though, it became clear that working the site would be a challenge due to EMI and the iron littering the site - but no pain no gain.
I made a slight adjustment to my settings and began to work my machine. My first good target was an Indian Head cent, followed by an old wheat cent. After a while I hit on a deep sounding target with the signal a bit erratic. I cut a plug and at about the nine inch mark I hit on the target, a 1843 large cent. :happydance01:

It was a while longer before coming across another good though choppy tone. It appeared to be that of an Indian Head cent and the depth was coming in at about seven to eight inches. I cut a plug and began to scoop out some soil. After removing about six inches of dirt I used my probe to pinpoint the target as I did not want to scratch it with my trowel. Making note of the target's location I scooped up several more inches of soil and dumped it on my small towel. I checked the pile with my probe and there were several targets being read. Sorting through the soil I found five Indian Head cents and a Canadian 1885 5-cent silver piece! :happydance01: :happydance01: I then rechecked the hole and again the probe signaled that there were more targets. :shocked04: I continued scooping more soil until there were no more signals in the hole. The pile of soil however had several targets. There were five more Indian Head cents in that pile! What a coin spill! Ten Indian Head cents and a Canadian 5 cent piece, all dated in the 1800's. :happydance01: :happydance01:

Not far from where I dug up the coin spill I picked up a 1892-O Barber dime. :peace:

I moved on to another side of the small park and picked up another Indian Head cent, a large cent, dated 1841, and a Barber dime, dated 1900. :happydance01: :happydance01:
