Five Large Cents Saturday-Indian Sunday

Yes wow is all I can say! Diane and I met up with my nephew Paul and his brother and his brothers daughter and went out to a field where an old house once stood. The lady who owns the fields, who is in her 90's says this was her grandfathers house site until it burned down. We started out finding some square nails, parts of spoons, typical farm iron etc. Then I got a decent signal and dug my oldest coin so far. A beautiful 1818 Large Cent. After a little more hunting I had to go to meet someone and so the rest of the group continued on to hunt. I got a call later telling me that Paul found three Large Cents 1828, 1831 and 1844 and his brother found one, 1833. They were all in exceptional condition, with full liberty and clear dates. My 1818 is so nice you can see the lines in the Matron Heads hair!

Went back today, Paul got an 1881 Indian just as nice as the Large Cents and an Eagle Button, I got a spoon bowl and some tools.

I have never seen coppers from a field in such beautiful condition, all are full liberty and finely detailed.

It's not hard to guess what type of nail was used to put the hole in Paul's 1828 LC is it? Perfectly square hole! lol

great looking coppers :shocked04: :peace: i take it the field hasn't been used much maybe for hay in the last 5o or so years but then again your in N.Y. and theres some great areas where the coppers stay in really good shape .\ for some reason . congrats again and hit that place hard as i suspect it might be an untapped site .

Thanks Dan but actually we are in Ohio! I think your right it is in pasture now and probably has been since the house was destroyed. Kept the coins in great condition, no fertilizer. But there is no wear on them either so they probably were not too old when dropped.

Five LC's is amazing. Love the 1818 that you found. Very nice detail and condition of such an old coin.
I'm still working to find my first. I hope it is at least half the condition as yours.

What a super hunt :clapping: It is most definitely not been hit with more coppers to follow. The large cents in that era were struck hard, so that is why the Liberty is almost always there. Check the cheekbone, eyes and top of the hair to see the wear and tear on them. But they are in great condition, only mildly corroded. |:confused:) What a hunt!!
