View Full Version : Six Silver Dimes - 1851 Seated

Late this morning I headed out to detect for just two hours seeing as I had a few other things to take care of in the afternoon, but time tends to pass you by when you are having fun; I ended up detecting for 3 1/2 hours. lol
The field I worked is short on targets, but I did manage to score with silver, as well as with a few wheat cents, two old buttons, and other miscellaneous items.
The six silver dimes made for a sweet hunt. One of the mercury dimes has been cut nearly in half though. The seated dime was a sweet surprise, as was the Barber dime. The dimes are dated 1851, 1906-D, 1939, 1941, 1944-D, and 1948.

The seated dime has very good detail but it has been banged up a bit around the edge.

I did find a few more wheat cents after taking this photo. These two are the oldest though. The other items are buttons.

The rest of the stuff - trash, bullets, and clad coins.

The field at the park I hit offered plenty of detecting space, but targets tend to be few.

Awesome grand slam Angel! I like that seated; it's got character... :)
I'm surprised you seem to dig few wheats in comparison with your silver. Do you ever intentionally pass lower wheat tones or is it just the location?
And I always like the chopped silver, especially if you can find the other half! We get a whole lot of chopped wheats and silver over here in CA, especially around LA.

Thanks Jayson!
I don't pass up wheat cents, actually. I do dig low tones, and I do enjoy finding wheat cents, so I definitely dig them up. It has been a case of location primarily.

Just realized the pile  of trash you accumulated while hitting 6 silvers. It is amazing how little junk you dig. :shocked04:
Sometimes I have to empty my Minelab pouch after each hunt because it is so full. I'm still doing plenty of testing with my machine though.
Is that amount about average for you?

I suffer from selective hearing. lol
Actually, I do dig trash, but just not much. It also depends on the site. For example, during a hunt at one particular park last year (http://www.americandetectorist.com/forum/index.php?topic=2737.0) the challenge had been working through and dealing with the aluminum screw caps that layered the site. For the most part, I have come to identify the warbled high-pitched tone they give off. Had I spent time digging all of those screw cap signals I seriously doubt I would have found the amount of silver I did find that day.
6 silver dimes....few tagets....in 3 1/2 hours....... :thinkingabout:
Wish I had your problems........ lol
