First two hours at a new site produced some nice keepers.
There is some debate of when the original house was built. My source lists it at 1890
but the owner said possibly as early as 1870. Either way... <:

Lots of property at this site. So I picked a small section of the front yard and started to work slow.
Fifteen minutes in I hit my first 1800's silver! I've been waiting almost two years for this. :happydance01:
I've gotten close to the 1800's on several occasions, but was never able to break through until today.

A short time later, I got a very broken nickel signal at about 8-9. I must have circled that target,
taking readings for a couple of minutes before I decided to dig... glad I did. 1868 nickel.

The nickel has lots of nice detail under the green corrosion. All vertical and horizontal bands in the shield are crisp.
I'm gonna have to figure out the best way to clean it.

Curious if anybody knows what this is? It's about the size of a Morgan dollar.
Perhaps a bridle rosette?

Congrats on your 1800's silver, the nickel and other finds! Looks like a great spot! I would definitely say the house is more of the 1870's vintage.

That is a beautiful site; it even looks vaguely familiar as if I have seen it before (I used to live in Dubuque, I guess it's possible).

Awesome finds!!! Love that barber dime and the rest too :cheering:

Nice hunt Joe |) |) That is a gorgeous Shield nickel. :happydance01: That is a horse rosette. Looks like it is lead lined like most of them are. That is where the back piece would have been put under the lead. Real nice house. Congrats on the 1800's Barber :beerbuddy:

... I figured you guys would know for sure. thumbsup01 At first I also thought it might be a compact case lid... until I saw all that lead on the back.

Sweet man! That's a great spot you've got there - beautiful and very pleasant looking. And it's got old coins to boot - a detectorist's dream! I'm sure a lot more good stuff will come from that lawn...
