First two hours at a new site produced some nice keepers.
There is some debate of when the original house was built. My source lists it at 1890
but the owner said possibly as early as 1870. Either way... <:
Lots of property at this site. So I picked a small section of the front yard and started to work slow.
Fifteen minutes in I hit my first 1800's silver! I've been waiting almost two years for this. :happydance01:
I've gotten close to the 1800's on several occasions, but was never able to break through until today.
A short time later, I got a very broken nickel signal at about 8-9. I must have circled that target,
taking readings for a couple of minutes before I decided to dig... glad I did. 1868 nickel.
The nickel has lots of nice detail under the green corrosion. All vertical and horizontal bands in the shield are crisp.
I'm gonna have to figure out the best way to clean it.
Curious if anybody knows what this is? It's about the size of a Morgan dollar.
Perhaps a bridle rosette?
