1921 Mercury Dime + Other Silver

Yesterday my plans for a late afternoon hunt were thwarted by rain and strong winds. I was hoping today would be better, and it was, so this afternoon I headed to a Connecticut park for a few hours of coinshooting. I selected an area I had not worked well on prior visits I had made to the park and detected there for three hours. It was a productive hunt, with the site yielding seven silver coins, the best ones being a scarce date 1921 mercury dime and a beautiful 1908-D Barber quarter.

Seven of the silver coins are from today's hunt. The 1948 Roosevelt dime I found while scouting a new park two days ago.

She may not be in the best shape, but finding a 1921 mercury dime in any shape is very exciting. :happydance01: Now I just need a 1921-D and 1916-D.

I just love the eagle design on the Barber quarters. :smitten: It was the first thing I saw staring at me from the bottom of the hole. :loveit:

The soil has stiffened enough to allow for clumps to be dug with the coins still embedded in them. Here is one of the Roosevelt dimes still encased in soil.

HH!

Nice hunt Angel thumbsup01 and congrats on that '21 :happydance01: Looks like 1000 silvers is in reach. Are you going to clean that '21?

Thanks Randy! I'm leaving the dime as is. I'll just use water to remove the soil before placing her in a 2X2.

Nice finds. I especially like the Barber. BTW how deep was it?

The Barber quarter was at around the 9 1/2 mark. The probe itself is about that long and it was completely in the hole when hitting on the target almost dead center.

Nice finds! 1200 is definitely well within reach for you this year! :happydance01:

So did you mention that you found the 1948 roosevelt at a park where you spent less than ten minutes total because it had been completely redone in the last couple of months with all new soil and there were absolutely no targets? Yet you pull a silver coin. :shocked04: I swear, you could find silver in an asphalt parking lot. lol

1200?! :shocked04: :shocked04: You are relentless. lol

No, I didn't mention the details behind finding the 1948 Roosevelt. lol It was a scouting mission. Too bad about that park though. I can imagine the coins that were carted off or buried much deeper. :-\

Very nice Angel!! :peace:

The '21 Merc is an awesome recovery.

Lots of great detail on the Barber quarter too. I have to agree, I like the reverse on the coin... but my favorite reverse is the WLH. The eagle design on it is incredible.

You do realize that 1200 silver coins is just insane. I'm sitting at 75 completely happy with the year, I can't even process what it would be like hitting 1200.

Heck, I'll bet if I could take my Explorer with me back to 1964.... I'd probably still have a tough time hitting 1200. lol

You are the man.... congrats! :cheering:

Yes, it is insane! :shocked01: But I am not trying to reach 1,200. :shocked04: I was happy with 500 until my good friend Angie began to wield her bat. lol

Sweet Quarter :clapping: Gotta love them great shape Barbers thumbsup01 Congrats on the '21 Merc too. It's a good year!!

Angie do you still hunt? I haven't seen anything posted in a long time....

Hi Brian, yes, Angel is giving me a hard time about that.

Until recently I had not been out this year at all, because of my insane job, and kids, etc. Recently I have been out a few times. I have dug some silver but nothing close to what Angel does. :) I didn't take photos of my last two hunts. I need to make a better effort to get good photos so I can post. thumbsup01
