So, Tim, Don and I all hit our honeyhole early this morning. Well...today was pretty special! The first target I got was another first for me... a liberty capped 1/2 cent piece with a 179? date...pretty rough shape, but I'll take it!!! So, we were about to wind up the hunt when Tim comes over to tell me something. I stop detecting and just move my coil to the right of me and it gives me a sweet high tone....hmmmm I look and it is a solid 12-45 and didn't budge...Tim keeps talking and I tell him I've got a good 12-45 here... He gets out his camera and filmed the dig... We looked in the hole and I see the side of what looked like a large cent... He gives me the water and OMG...Another REALE!!!! This time it is in awesome shape and a date too! 1793 2 Reales!!!!!!!! We were both flipping out. Two reales in the same week! Here are my pics and the videos will follow later!

lol Now you definitely know what one looks like. That is a beautiful 2 Reales. It's minted in Lima, Peru and is in awsome shape :peace: :peace: :peace: The other coin is indeed a Liberty Capped Half Cent, since the bust has a high arch to it and any one dated in the 17's is automatically a Liberty Capped. Regular Draped Bust Half Cents started in 1800. I'd say a great hunt but that would be an understatement lol Congrats on each of them finds. :beerbuddy:

Great finds , the 2 Reale is magnificent and it was amazing there was any date at all on the half cent . . Way back in this country's history there was a shortage of money so foreign money was used right along with American currency . You guys have a heck of a spot there and I expect we are going to see many more great finds possibly even cut pieces of eight . Awesome that you guys filmed it . thumbsup01 thumbsup01

Congrats on that Spanish silver. The copper is a Draped Bust. I can give you a 100% ID on it. I have dug two of them this year.
Kirk
:) Yes indeed it's a sweet coin.I'm surprised it's in such nice shape. Doesn't fertilizer affect silver? Or is it just copper coins? Anyone? If you believe and I mean BELIEVE a site is never hunted out, the Metal Dectector GOD will reward you kindly. thumbsup01 Congrats for hitting the lottery twice. Maybe it was Jack who dropped it a long time ago. You did say Bean field, Correct?

The silvers we have found have not been effected too bad by the fertilizer..mostly the coppers get eaten as with my 1/2 cent... I'm in Ohio.

Hey Kirk, It has to be a Liberty Capped Half Cent since you can see the 179? date. Draped Bust started in 1800 for the half cents series. Plus the bust is way up high on the Liberty Capped ones. Can't really see the cap, but it has to be there somewheres

George, I am very confident that it is not a Liberty Cap. 100% Draped Bust half cent. thumbsup01

It does look like there is no cap on it, but I thought Brian said he could see 179? on it. It may just be a trick of corosion and be a Draped Bust. It does appear to have a fat bust lol. I think you are right Kirk. The date must be corroded and be 180?
How you guys doing in your fields this year Kirk??

After I made my video, I can see that it is a draped. Either way it's an early one! I wish I could do it all over again... tooo much rubbing on it in the beginning! It had better detail in the field than it did by just puting water on it at home. I'm with you... It's a Draped!!! I'm still happy!

Any half cent gets one of these <: It seems like we should find more of them, more than large cents, but we don't  It's hard to not rub anything when we dig it up :crying02:

The big bow is decieving and in the poorer condition it looks like a cap, but in the video the bow is pretty visible.

Tim and I are using a 150 yard twine with stakes to grid out the area in the opposite direction...he gets one side of the line and I get the other and we walk toward eachother, then move the stakes two swings over when we get to the end. The first night we got about 4 passes in the rain and cold. We were in the trashy spot, but the next hunt is right in the belly of where the coins were found. Can't wait!!!

Ron, if you or any of you are ever in Ohio...I'd love to take you on a hunt! I just got permission tonight to hunt another set of fields separated by a creek... This site had houses, grist mill, saw mill and a general store that exsisted in 1806. My father in law's uncle owns the property... my wife's family were amongst the first to settle in that valley and the family is listed in the history of our county book. I've got way too much land to hunt and too little time to get to it... good problem to have!
