Tim and I hit our favorite honeyhole tonight. They finally got the beans off the other field and we were dying to get into it. I called Tim before we left and I said I felt like there were two Seated coins just waiting for us... He replied that he was hold off for a Reale.... We hunted for about 2.5 hours tonight and the coins were few and far between, but it was nice to be able to get into the bean field finally. Tim came away with a wheat penny and I came away with my oldest silver coin to date...and my first Reale!!!! After some research, we narrowed it down to a 1 reale that is at least dated 1802. As you will see, it's not pretty, but it is a reale and I've never found one before...Wooohoo! The crest/shield/coat of arms thingy on the reverse is still quite visible and from what I can tell by looking at it by eye, it is the FM type. On each side of the shield you can see the pillars with a scroll wrapped around it. I wish it had a date, but I'll take it! If you see something different to give me a better idea of the type and date...please do!

It's a Reale thumbsup01 If it's about the size of a dime, it's a half Reale: if it's about the size of a nickel, it's a 1 Reale. Nice grab Brian!! :clapping:

I was wondering if it was a half reale...You're not kidding about being paper thin... good thing it is silver because it is a bit more sturdy. I wish I had a date on it though... Closest I'll ever come to having a coin in the 1700's.

From what I have found, it measures 17mm and is very thin and without a doubt it is a 1/2 Reale. I believe I see the FM assaires mark which would date it to 1772 to 1800. So I'm pretty sure I've hit the 1700's!!! I never thought I'd ever find a Reale here in Ohio.

Very sweet find, Brian! It's amazing how much wear many of those Reales have. At first you stare at it trying to figure out what in the world you have in your hand. lol What a thrill when you finally make out some of the details. :happydance01: Congrats!
