There is a small very old (ca 1880's) park near my house. I hunt it regularly and have found some nice items there. Currently there is a construction project going on right now at this park where they tore up some walking paths and scraped about 12 of dirt off of an area about 40' x 75'. The dirt is all piled up just waiting to be spread out again. I hunted the walking path trench and found a 1937 Buffalo nickel. I hunted the area where they scraped down 12 and found these shells. Please help me ID their approx age, thank you!

I found a bunch of shells (although they were shorter versions) with the letters U, P, H, and US. They were at a place that was started in 1894. I always figured they were turn of the century. I found a lot of them and they have to come from a time when you were allowed to hunt with the general public around. I'd say they date from the same time as your park.
yes they are from a rim fire gun most likely pre 1900 for sure

Some folks on another forum helped ID these as a .22 extra long which was first introduced in 1880, and the larger one is a Winchester .44 caliber Henry rimfire, first introduced in the 1860's. I am really excited to have found these and am waiting for them to spread out more dirt at this construction site where these were found.
