Only One Coin at an 1845 House

Yesterday I obtained permission to detect around a house that the owner told me was built in 1845. The soil was rich and black and we have had a lot of rain recently so my hopes were high.

Alas, I only found one coin, an 1819 One Skilling from Norway. It was very deep and when it came out of the hole I thought it might be a Half Cent. A coin that is over 200 years old is a rare find in Illinois. It isn't much to look at but I am very happy with it.

The pewter spoon bowl is probably pretty old too.

Other deep high tones ended up being brass rings. The patented object is a "waste pipe fitting".

Wow that is an old one. Sounds like someone else has detected that home before you got there but at least they left you a 200+ year old coin!

Not too shabby. I think the Skilling is from Denmark as mine from 1714 was minted in Copenhagen. I think Norwegian coins Ore.

I don't know why I said Norway. I knew it was from Denmark. D'oh! All those Scandinavian countries look alike to me. :lol:

One old coin far older than most I've ever found here in the Midwest, plus a few other goodies still makes for a great hunt! Like a lot of these old homes, over the years either they've been detected hard in the past, or the yard has been dug out or built up, or they flood irrigated so everything sinks halfway to Hades.
