Hello diggers,

Here is a lovely 1600's clasp knife (folding knife) that I found on my recent trip to Germany. It's amazing to me that the bone scales are still present! The soil in that part of Germany is very gentle to coins and relics. It took me 2 days to get all the rust off and I was very pleased to find the blacksmith's touch mark on the blade. It looks like 3 arrowheads to me. What do you think it looks like? The bone handle is very fragile and flakey, but the wax dipping did a good job stabilizing it. I am very pleased with this find and will add it to my collection. Thanks for looking and happy digging, Dave.

That is a very special find, Dave! As always, you did a great job of cleaning and conserving it too. This was a necessary tool to someone in the 1600s and I'm sure it was used a lot. Wonderful find!

Thanks, Tony, I really enjoy cleaning and conserving these old finds. I want them to look as good as they did when they were being used, but still retain the patina showing their age. I'm very lucky that the soil in that part of Germany is very neutral and helps preserve them.
