Hello everyone.
I found my first Merc today in this spill I have been to 3 times now in the last month. This spot is directly under a tree. A 1888 Indian Head Penny was about 6 inches away. I have found 6 different kinds of coins in this very same spot, including 2 Indian Head Penny’s. One is in the photo. Daylight was fading fast so I had to cut it short after the finds. I plan to go back a fourth time before the ground freezes over for the winter.

Congratulations! You are officially addicted to treasure hunting now! Welcome to our forum, I think you are going to find lots of great information and help here. I know it helped me tremendously when I was starting out. Where do you live and what kind of detector are you using? Are you mostly a coin hunter, relic hunter, or a little bit of everything?

Welcome to AD, and congrats on your finds! If you detect enough you'll likely find Mercs by the hand full just like wheaties. My first time detecting where an old farmhouse once as I found a coin spill that produced 26 Mercs and 2 Barber dimes. Haven't topped it to this day, but beginner's luck can sometimes be legendary. But seeing shiny or round stuff in the hole never gets old, and instead of just a hobby it starts to become a lifestyle.

Thanks! I’m in Illinois. We’re about neck and neck with the weather.
