Hi everyone. I got out with with HeavyMetalNut and Del on Sunday to hit some cellar holes in the woods. There were early military buttons found at the sites several years ago and so I was excited to have the opportunity to hunt these cellar holes. :daydream: We had a great time, as always, and it was a beautiful day in the woods of New England. I found several plain buttons including a few tombacs at first which was very discouraging each time I wiped away the dirt hoping for early military. Who knew you would ever be discouraged to find a tombac! Danny got the ball rolling on military buttons late in the day and then Dave and I joined in on the fun. It was an exciting couple of hours with each of us calling out our latest find. I ended up with TWO 1st Regiment Artillery Buttons that date from 1808 - 1821. One of them was protected by a thick crust of a cement like encrustation. This turned out to be my best one. :loveit: The other one is so worn and pitted that it's impossible to get a good photo but there are enough details visible under magnification to see that it is also an "L A" Script button. The bad part for me was that I didn't know until I got home on Sunday night that I had actually found a couple of military buttons. I had to clean them first to see the details so I had a very anxious ride home. :girlcry::crossfingers:6886068861 I also found a copper! It's an 1829 Large Cent. 68862 And finally here's some pics of our day in the woods. 688636886468865

Congrats on the early military Donnie! And a nice LC to boot! BTW, that "cellar hole" looks more like a colonial version of the Bat Cave!

Congrats on the scripted artillery buttons Donnie , I was sure hoping you'd hit a few with your coil. And the copper is the gravy !!

Very nice! Buttons and copper = great hunt.

Hey what is that mysterious cloud in the next to the last pic? Looks like ectoplasm from one of the cellar hole's long-deceased inhabitants.

It was the ghost of a War of 1812 soldier showing us where he lost his buttons. Either that, or the cloud from some kind of pineapple, mango, kiwi fruit, and cinnamon juice concoction coming out of Dave's vape.:hystericallaugh:

I got a sweet signal at the entrance to one of the root cellars. I was thinking how could anybody miss this? It sounded like a button. It was a pull tab.
