I met up with Digger Don and Noah yesterday to hit the "Button Field" and the "1833 Cabin Site". The weather man said it was going to rain but he was wrong. We enjoyed decent weather all day although it was a brisk 28 degrees when we started detecting with a 20 mph wind.
At the Button Field I found an 1848 Large Cent, dateless Shield Nickel, a couple small cuff buttons, and an 1820 Militia Button.
At the 1830s Cabin Site I found a nice flat button with some gilt still on it, my first ever ball button, and my first ever open-ended thimble.

The 1815-1825 militia button isn't in great shape but I was sure happy to get it! I didn't even know what it was until Don told me.

I'm sure glad you made the drive Tony. After all our concerns about the weather, it ended up being a nice day.
Congrats on all the good finds, I'm glad the 1833 site gave up a couple of coins to you.
You had a nice haul for sure!!!

Congrats Tony! Love the coins and buttons. You got some good history. That site might have had some sort of military post on it or something. I can read the date on your shield nickel plain as day in the photo. 1862. Which is really amazing since they didn't start making them until 1866! Ok, so I can see 18_2 in the pic. Congrats again and happy digging! Dave.
Shockingly I do see a date on that shield! 1872 I think. :thumbsup02:

That Shield Nik is in great shape! And that militia button is awesome...very old! Well done.
Great finds Tony , I'm very :envious: envious of the militia button . with so many being found there no doubt someone lost a uniform jacket , i would bet a belt of hat plate was lost nearby as well.

Great finds Tony! Sounds like you guys have a great spot year after year! I know where some of those cabin sites are from the surveys in S Wis and N IL, but just never seem to be able to get permission. One of these days!
