So my Mom is an Axe Murderer...

Well potentially she is. Check out what she has found the last 3 weeks up at our cottage!

The first one she found was the "Trade Axe". I am not sure if it really is a trade axe but I guess it could be. It was rusted up and I told her to set up electrolysis on it. So she did and it came out really nice. The other Broad Axes needed just a little electrolysis. My boys are extremely jealous. There are names on the broad axes and I think they date from early 1800's to 1840 maybe.

I took the kids up there last week to do some detecting and relaxation. We did not find too many buttons on this trip. But I found a very cool "harpoon" type implement. It is hand forged and was found at one of the button sites.

Here are a few plain buttons that I found and a copper "awl" type thing that I believe is indian copper culture. My mom found the Eagle Script A button and the 1815 coin (of course).

Then my Mom found this gold ring (sigh). It is a 23k ring...I did not know there was such a thing. I knew that 24k is nearly pure gold but I do not think I have ever heard of 23k. Normally I would expect it to ring up like a nickel but this ring comes in at a 23 on the Equinox or in the penny to dime range. I guess that is due to it being 95% pure gold?

Here is a pic of one of the sites we visited. It is one a map from the 1820's. It is a very cool looking spot but we did not find anything there.

Well that might be it for 2020 up at my cottage. Have no plans to go back up but who knows. I am proud of my Mom for doing so well this summer...not too bad for a grandmother in her 70's!

The small axe is a belt type its possible its a trade axe but should have some touch marks associated to it on one side these also determine the axe's weight . The 1811-13 era scripted A eagle button is in remarkable condition . please post the gold ring's hallmarks as we can probably date its age . Great finds .

The ring has an inscription with a couple of names and a date of 1920. She is trying to figure out if any of the locals have any relatives with the names in the ring in the hopes that maybe she could return it to the family. There are not that many local families who have roots going back more than 50 years so maybe she could return it?
