Continental Army USA Button!

Hi everyone! I haven't been out detecting in over a month until today. It's summer break time for us. I have been itching to get out and dig some holes. I got an invite from a good friend to hunt a standing colonial home permission today for a few hours. I was running 14khz and Reactivity 5 staying close to the house in the nails. I got a signal next to a root and dug up my very first Continental Army USA Revolutionary War Button!

Woah! Congrats, what a great find. It's in awesome shape. Is it made of pewter? I think I read somewhere they have to be preserved a special way to keep them from flaking apart after coming out of the ground. Did you have to do anything special to it?

I gently cleaned it and soaked the button last night in a mixture of Elmer's Glue and water for five hours. After it dried, I applied a coat of Renaissance Wax and let that dry. I just applied a second coat of Renaissance Wax. After it dries again, I will do it for the third coat. I have some satin spray polyurethane that I usually use on my pewter buttons but it makes them a little shiny (even though it's satin). It is pewter and other than the degraded shank and a couple of bad spots on the rim the button appears stable. I think it has a very high lead content for a pewter button. I haven't seen any flaking at all. If I do, then it will get a coat of polyurethane.

Thanks! I added a couple of photos above. The button looked brownish due to the lighting on my desk last night but it's actually a gray color. The shank is degraded.
