Lots of War of 1812 buttons and Copper Indian artifacts!

Last year my 4 kids and I dug 40 War of 1812 era US military buttons and it was a blast at our cottage in northern Michigan. This year was even better! We dug a total of 43 buttons! Many are flat buttons and about 10 were burnt beyond recognition. 21 were found at the same site at last year. The first spot has an area where the majority of the buttons are in and it is very apparent that there was a burn pit of some sort. The rest were found at a new site. I did not take a pic of the burned unidentifiable buttons.

Here are a some other relics. Son #1 found the handle last year and then son #2 found the fork this year and they go together nicely. There is a copper patch as well in this pic...they would patch up kettles and rivet them together...you can see the rivets on the part.

This is the smallest buckle I have ever found...that is a musket ball next to it.

I also found 2 indian copper artifacts. I found them wondering around in woods within 50 yards of the shore. The first was a copper fish hook and the other was a copper knife. Both are about 4 inches long. The knife is missing a "tang" that broke off perhaps when it was dropped. I forget the name of the tribe (Jujuten ??) but the museum near my cottage had examples of both of these items and they date around 600 years ago. I also found a couple pcs of copper here and there in the woods that I can only assume are indian related as well.

I wanted to give my kids numbers for names too but my wife wouldn't let me :lol:

Incredible hunt :perfect10: ! The buttons are in amazing shape , were any retrieved from the water by chance ? Those silver plated types ought to really clean up nicely , I also like the bone handled two tine fork and the small garter buckle . Let me know when you organized the first paid group hunt there , i'll be first to sign up for that one :yes: .

These sites are near my cottage. But I have found some musket balls in our front yard a few years ago. There are many more sites that I am currently researching that are on public/state owned land...gotta plan for next year.

As for the Nox vs eTrac I have talked about that enough and many on here are probably tired of me and my opinions. I think the eTrac is amazing and I never thought I would do this but I am selling it. I just put my Mom's eTrac up for bid on eBay and once it sells I will put mine up. My mom is getting a Nox too. I plan to buy another 800 once I sell my eTrac...always nice to have a spare and the kids all clamored for their turn with the Nox so now there will be 3 of them when we go on our next summer vacation. I have rarely used the eTrac since getting the Nox and I think I will be able to get enough $ to buy a new Nox.

Thanks Dan. I need to get some better pics of the silver plated ones...unfortunately they will not clean up too much better.

As for a group hunt...man that would be fun! There are plenty of places to go. It would have to be late fall or early spring … less bugs, people and an open cottage. Maybe some day.

:lol: I love Futurama! Thanks for info about Minelabs, Jared. I've been using the 600 everyday since it came out. I think my next purchase with be an 800. I did that with the T2. I had the T2 green, then bought the T2 black. I've been using 5kHz a lot of late...to reach those deep silvers in beat parks, but if I were in button heaven like you I'd probably stick with multi.
