Full Metal Digger

Hey Diggers,
I went out with the guys to a new section of woods. We all found a few keepers and the weather was superb for detecting. Working my way up a hill near a natural spring I got a slamming signal next to a rotted log. I dug down about 3 inches and saw a flash of shiny silver. That is something I did not expect! At first I thought it was part of an old silver pencil or pen but then realized it's a cigarette holder. It's marked 900. So I guess it's coin silver???? Later I got a really nice early shoe buckle. It has the "cooking pot" chape which dates it to somewhere between 1660 and 1720. The iron tongue is of course rusted away. Funny how the entire buckle is bronze but the tongue was iron. Thanks for looking and happy hunting! Dave.
