Hey Friends,
I only had about 3 hours to hunt today so I went to the siege camp. I only got one coin today. It's a 1638 Swiss Schilling from Lucerne Canton. Looks like the coin had a hard life before it was lost and it didn't help any that I scuffed it getting it out from under 2 big roots. The coin shows a two-headed eagle on one side and a bishop on the other.

I'm sure that we all be needing your eye candy soon.
Sweet find.

Another spectacular piece of history with a clear date! That siege site is a real honey hole for you, Dave! How wonderful it must be to get steady finds from the 1600s there. It would be such a thrill!

:congrats:

I love to see these old coins and relics with Papal insignia and/or a Bishop in this case. Well done!

I wanna be able to dig hammies all the time too! :girlcry::girlcry::girlcry::envious:

It's still a really cool find Dave!
Congrats!

Is that how it came out of the ground Dave? Or was there some kind of cleaning involved?

Here's how they come out of the ground Tim. Boiled 2 times in olive oil and lemon juice to clean it.

Another fantastic find! And nope, not tired at all. Working crazy hours, museum research, and now helping plan and prep the company holiday party week from Friday doesn't leave time to sleep much less hunt. So love seeing your eye candy, just a bit jealous you find 1600s coins like I find bubblegum on the sidewalk.

Amazing as always Dave...hey, will the ground freeze there? We had a week already where we couldn't dig.
Keep it up!

I see Germany is treating well DaddyDigger!

Not sure if I ever mentioned it, but I was fortunate to spend a bit of my Seabee time way up in north/western Germany, above Hamburg and not to far from Keil.

Even though we are at 39 degrees North it doesn't get as cold here as in the U.S. Some parts of the ground will freeze for a day or two but the trees and leaves for the most part keep it unfrozen (I do all my detecting in the woods).

Dave, that is a foolish question to ask. Of course we are sick of you finding all those great coins and relics. But we will tolerate you for the sake of the coins and relics. ;)
