Got out yesterday with Danny LaMontagne for some colonial cellar hole digging. We hiked for six miles and, wouldn't you know it, I made my best find at the furthest point in the hike! I found an 1845 Seated Liberty Half Dime. It's now my oldest US Silver Coin and only the second Half Dime I have found in 24 years of detecting. The previous holder of "oldest US Silver" in my collection was the 1856O Half Dime that I dug in a Confederate Civil War mustering camp about 15 - 20 years ago.654526545365454

Wow. Congrats!!. It's in nice shape too!:clapping: I bet that made the 6 mile walk back to the car a little more pleasant!
There seems to be a few " Oldest silvers" this week. I hope that trend continues for other AD members!!!

It is nice looking for being stepped on by several oxen and run over with wooden carts! :lolsign:

I notice that about Del. He makes you walk about 6 to 9 miles just to find a good coin! Congrats on your oldest silver--seems like everyone is hitting their oldest silvers this week! Best wishes and happy hunting, Dave.

Donny B....that maybe your oldest "US" silver, but do I need to remind you that you have an "American" silver that is almost 200 years older than that! ;)

Six miles one way? You guys are out of my league. I don't like to hike more than 50 yards anymore :) Paid off though...congrats!
That coin was stepped on by many , maybe even by me ! It alone was worth the hike in my opinion , Congrats Donnie !

You had to work for that one Donnie! But it was worth it man. Great find and congrats! If someone told me I needed to hike 10 miles for a pre-1850 US silver coin I'd do it in a heartbeat.

Thanks for calling me over when you found that little hot spot. I wouldn't have found it if you hadn't done that Danny. Yes, it was worth the hike! Early US Silver is good for bad hips!
