Sunday RobW and myself finally got to hunt together. Years ago they had closed a local park and just last week I noticed that the fencing around it was gone. So that is where we went. Not there more than 10 minutes and I see Rob talking to someone. Seems this guy, and other detectorists have hit it recently. This guy tells Rob that he pulled 13 mercs and someone else got a 1/2 real.

I managed to get a compact case, nothing inside except broken glass. Also a nice knee or shoe buckle. I can see where the pin would have gone to hold in the chape and tongue. Also a musket ball and and Iodine tin cover. Also a cast iron key. Really wanted to get my 1000th wheat but only managed 3 of them.

Today I went to the gold course to see whats up and found some areas to swing in. Got two more horse tack buckles. making a total of 47 I have gotten there. A seriously busted up pocket knife. A pretty good find I think would be the match container. Made of brass and has a chain attached. Anybody got any idea of age???

Got 3 more wheats making my total 996.....4 to go.

Thanks for reading and HH everyone.

thanks for ID'ing that buckle. Rob has had some health issues of late but I think he'll pull thru.
Any idea of the age of the buckle??

Tell him I said hello your next time out with him . The buckle looks late 1700's maybe 1770's to 90's judging by its curvature and design.

Great finds! I wonder if that golf course used to be a big horse farm? HH, Dave.

It had to have been with the amount of buckles that all of us have taken out of there.

What a cool vesta case...the matches still there!!!...must be toward the end of the vesta craze...near the beginnings of the course? ...and that knee buckle frame obviously predates the golf. :clapping: Was it near where the coppers were found?

Your 1000th wheat is anytime now!!

Al, it seems that that site has seen continuous habitation since the last ice age! Nice buckle, cool match safe!

I like the buckle. Is that some kind of matchbook holder with the chain?
