Hi all,
There are some county owned grounds near where I moved that at one time had a lot of activity including a poor farm, agricultural school, nursing school, childrens home, and an asylum for the chronically insane. Today nothing stands other than the children's home, and the rest of the 1000 plus acres has been designated park land.
I saw some photos showing remnants of the asylum and other structures, so thought to go on an exploratory mission and see what I could find. Good targets were sparse, but I did make a few cool finds. One such I thought might have been a piece of a shovel handle, but as it turns out it's actually a part of a WW1 bugle with the manufacturer and date on it! Also a whole albeit mangled compact(?) case, and another mystery item. To get the whole story, the video is here:

Interesting location and history! Thanks for sharing. I wonder how that bugle got so smashed up? HH, Dave.

Neat you could get a date on the old bugle! The research on an item once back at home and cleaned up is half the fun of this hobby!

D'O'D, If that land could talk, you can imagine the stories it could tell. Cool finds. That mangled bugle part must have been a screamer of a signal.

Yes, it was! Came up as a 12-47 @ 4 inches. It was actually around 10". Almost gave up digging, but glad I didnt.
I'm planning at least 1 return trip to get more video of the area. I want to wear my gopro and record a walkthrough in 4k with live digs this time.

I took the video down after someone notified me of a sound issue. Once I get that fixed, I'll upload the repaired version.
