 Got out Thursday with Danny for some colonial detecting. The find of the day for me was a very early buckle. This design is dated to c1620 - 1680 in Whitehead. It is a cast copper-alloy double loop trapezoidal buckle with lobed protrusions on either end of the strap bar. That's a mouthful! Thanks to Danny for helping me date this buckle. I also dug my very first machine etched tombac and a very nice fancy button. 637756377663777

Great find Donnie! Are you gonna attempt to electrolysize the iron tongue. I know that can be difficult, but possible.

The tongue is so fragile that I'm not even going to attempt to treat it with electrolysis. It actually snapped under light pressure. I gave the tongue a very light brushing with Rustoleum Rust Reformer which I hope will slow it down from turning into dust. I debated about whether to try to save it or just remove it altogether. In the end, I decided to try to save it for the time being.6379663798
