We in the northeast have been getting pounded by Mother nature as of late :shocked03: If tomorrow storm is half of what the weathermen say it will be our 4th Nor'easter snow storm
in 3 weeks !:whiteflag:

Donnie and I were determined to get out and we found a spot in Connecticut that wasn't buried in snow , actually we were lucky it had bare patches at all !

63417

Donnie had dropped his coil a few hundred yards near a cellar hole (back field area between two walls ) while I looked to pinpoint where the site actually was. He immediately got a dandy button but moved closer to me where the cellar was . I quickly picked up a crushed thimble , followed by a button and a while later a very thin looking coin or button (turned out to be a coin) 6341863419. The patchy snow made us stick to the bare areas and it didn't take that long before we covered these . We headed back to where Donnie hit the first button because it was odd that he would so quickly find one way away from the foundation. This turned out to be a hot spot of activity and being far enough away that it wasn't detected before by others. Unfortunately the snow in this areas had deeper spots but I pulled a few nice targets out including a very crappy sounding iron target but it was also an odd sounding one . The pinpointer found the curved iron nail first and then I resweep the hole to hear another odd high tone and just underneath the nail and slightly to the side was a copper on edge:wow: .63420 The King George II is pretty worn but made copper 2 for the day and it was still early!:bananadance:This area also produced a couple of buttons and near a stone wall I got a very loud and way too shallow target !:shocked04: Its only reading a half inch deep and I could tell it was a pretty big target and the way the numbers were (very high vdi ) I was pretty sure it was a state forest sign or beer can  but I always dig these targets !!!! Well one I opened up the hole and was pleasantly surprised it was deeper than a couple of inches and yes Jeff (Lodge Scent) you guessed it !! A shoe buckle 63421 :cheering::happy:!! The day was coming together nicely and it was only about 10:30 in the morning  63422 . Again with limited space to hunt we covered it pretty fast and wanted to hit some of the other cellars in the area. At these I only picked up a few more buttons and a couple of tack buckles but I did get a small two piece cuff eagle button , My second military button of the year !:smitten:63423 here is the buckle cleaned up with a silver plated button I had found a couple weekends ago from another hunt. 63424

I'm still working on the coins for now but I don't have a lot of promise for either . If I can id them I'm happy , hopefully the weather will cut us a break i'm getting tire of shoveling !

Good work there Dan ! Of course you found a shoe buckle. You are the only one smart enough all these years not to ignore those "beer cans". :envious: It's a nice one too ! I like the eagle! What the heck is that coin? An extra crispy NJ?

What a great day! It's so exciting to find a hot spot in the middle of the Nor'Easters! I don't know if you remember but right before you dug that beautiful buckle you looked over at me and said, "This has to be one of those signs!" The next I know you are grinning from ear to ear! :envious:

Great hunting Dan, that's hard core for sure! Way to go on that copper under the curved nail. That would be tough for even the best of us!

Great hunt with limited swinging areas. Hope you can get an ID on the coins. Yes, this weather needs to go away. Bring on the warmer days, buds on the trees and some singing birds.

Holy cow DEL! You guys are hard-core! How many storms have you had now, 4 or 5? I'll bet Don is glad he didn't come up this week on a road trip! Congrats on your finds. The shoe buckle has interesting curve to it. Is that normal the way it flattens out on the ends? Best wishes and HH, Dave.

No snow here yet! Supposed to get upwards of a foot. You nailed it, Dan! I do hate those bent nails! Sometimes you really thing they're a good target. What did that copper turn out to be...anything? :congrats:

I love the perseverance Dan, and it certainly paid off for you and Donnie! You're off to a solid start once again despite all this darn snow. I'd love to chat you up at some point on how you go about choosing whether to dig or not to dig those iffy iron targets you mention. You seem to have a great knack of knowing which ones are potentially good.

Leave it to Dan to be handicapped with a fraction of the normal hunting ground and he's still able to get double coppers and a huge shoe buckle! Which you probably could've hit with a foot of snow cover anyways!
Sweet hunt Dan!
Congrats

Jeff the coin turned out to be an Ottoman emperor Mustafa III coin of Tunisia from 1754 to 1774 like this example 63506

Danny, that coin is one of the most incredible finds I have seen dug. Their is no doubt in my mind that the coin made its way here in the pocket of a pirate. I can only imagine the circumstances of how that coin ended up here. I can imagine a scraggly, bearded, pirate plunking down the coin for some ale in a pub or for the purchase of a weapon from a colonial gunsmith. Incredible find, my friend!
