Hi all
Drove over 400 miles today round trip visiting 5 towns. The first stop was Mineral Point which is one of the older towns in the state. The park there gave out absolutely zilch, not even clad. Only thing I found were some very recent plugs. Had thought about door knocking as there were tons of very early homes, but it still too early in my opinion to bother folks on a Sunday morning.
Next stop was Lancaster. (Wi, not Pa. Though the Amish population is probably about the same) The goal was to hit a 1906 courthouse on a pre CW site. Didn't take long to figure out it had been landscaped not long ago. All new statues except the original 1860s CW memorial, and only very shallow clad.
Next stop was the main goal, Cassville. It's one of the earliest towns in the state and one of 3 contenders to be the capitol. This all took place in the 1830s. The building was built and was to be donated as the new capitol building if the town was selected. Unfortunately the town lost the bid, and eventually the building was later turned into a hotel. As of now it's still there but abandoned and decaying. The town park along the Mississippi river held promise too, but didn't have anything but pull tabs.
I was able to obtain permission for the hotel, and 2 other buildings across the street as a bonus. Well, the bonus lots turned out to be gravel covered with trash. The hotel wasn't much better but at least had a bit of a grassy area. This spot only gave up a few clad coins mostly, but I also found an old toy car wheel and a big round lead ingot. Also found a huge aluminum ring and a copper piece I can't identify.
The last 2 towns also didn't hold much. Another recently dug out park, and the last town gave my only keeper coins being only wheats.
Included in the photos is the Rosie and another piece of float copper from the field near home. The landscape photos are of the mighty Mississipi and the town of Cassville.
