Hi all,
Got out after work this morning to a park that supposedly dates back to around the mid 1800s. I've tried hunting it once before with the X-terra but it was so loaded with iron and other trash it was futile. But now I've been working with the CTX using an open screen it's opened up a lot more area and it's getting more of the previously unreachable targets.
So not 5 minutes out of the gate I get a scratchy but repeatable 12-41ish signal surrounded by iron at about 8 inches. Dig the plug and in the loose dirt at the bottom I see silver! First hole gave me a beautiful 1911 Barber dime! Rechecked the hole with the pinpointer and found several nails.
Over the next 2 hours I recovered 6 deep wheats, one right next to a big iron spike. But the neatest find was as I was heading towards the car. I got a somewhat repeatable 12-36 around 7 inches. I dug the plug and pulled out a bunch of old nails and other trash. Rechecked the hole and dig to get one last beep from the pinpointer. Lo and behold, my first old lead soldier! It's complete, no damage I can tell. Lots of detail, and the style really shows it's age. Love the old hat with ribbon out the back. So, I'll definitely be going back there as time permits with that open screen!
