Pfff verry verry old.

Yesterday i was driving home and i saw on my left side a lot of ground in a field.
Yesss the where digging for a new road again:beerbuddy:
After dinner get my gear and went to the site.
Not a lot of signals but on the surface i saw some shard fragments.
The looks verry old.
Start to collect them and in the end i had a lot.
Some research on the internet found out it was iron age.:shocked05:
Whaiting now for a reaction from the local archaeologist.
Greetings again from the other side.

Great to see a post from you, Willem! It boggles the mind to think of how old those shards might be. We're talking thousands of years old. Incredible!

Nice recovery! Without your interest in our hobby these would have probably reburied for another 1,000 years.
 
Isn't it illegal to remove artifacts?
Not an accusation. Just thought the laws on this had got pretty tough.
 
Laws are a little different in Europe. They aren't a police state like The USA, but rather work with detectorists to bring more history back to the light of day.
 
If only the USA could adapt laws like the UK has.....Nice finds Willems, could you let us know what the archaeologist says.
 
Yes we have good rules here in Holland.
No problem when its not a archaeological site.
According the rules i have to report this find.
I was just in time.
The day after i found out that the company completely distroyd the area.
To cover up all the tracks.
To bad.:bummer::bummer:
Think the dont want any archaeological research.
Look at the differents.
The archaeologist is on holiday.
Waiting for his reaction.
Keep you all up to date.

I would make sure you show the achcaeologist the before and after photos. I'm pretty sure purposely destroying a possible historical site is still very illegal in Holland. The construction company responsible may have hell to pay for this.
