Couple V Nickels and a Barber Quarter, Relics

Since the days are getting longer I now have a couple of hours to hunt after work. Yesterday I got permission at an old farm house just down the road from us. The owners told me that somebody had detected there a few times before.

I could tell that the previous detectorist had hit it pretty hard as targets were few and I didn't find any pennies. Most of my finds were the results of iffy signals.

Nevertheless, I did find a few old coins and relics including a surprise Barber Quarter that was in the same hole with a V Nickel. The signal was somewhat mixed, which is perhaps why the previous guy didn't dig it.

The small town I live in is named Trimble, after the family that founded it. The old farm I detected is owned by the Trimble family. I strongly suspect that this item once belonged to a member of this family. I will offer to return it to the property owners. I'm not sure what it is exactly. Maybe the lid off of a match case? I'm also not sure if it's silver as it isn't marked anywhere. The initials C.T.T. are engraved on it.

Congrats on getting those iffy signals out of the ground. Kudos for offering to return the silver case to the owners. I think its part of a cigarette case.

Unfortunately the Sterling stamp is probably on the bottom piece that's missing.

Nice digs Tony! If anyone can pull finds from a hunted out spot it is you my friend! I think the IAA (aka Illinois Farm Bureau) suspender clip is actually a name badge from a convention or something. Probably had a ribbon and the name of the local branch or something like that. Was the quarter with the 1899 nickel or the 1902? Great finds and HH, Dave.

Very nice Tony! Love hitting goodies in "hunted out" areas. That chotgun headstamp also dates from around 1902-1928. Nice save with the engraved silver lid, very nice!
