While Alec and I were in Connecticut, Alec dug a piece at a 1750 house that we thought was a drawer pull. I even captioned it in our video as a drawer pull. Today it was identified by Isaac Pasette as a thumb plate from a Brown Bess flintlock musket .
The best I can tell, this came off a model 2 ( 1769-1790 ). Much cooler than a drawer pull. LOL
We just don't dig stuff like this in Illinois!
Thanks Isaac for the ID!

Grats on the find. Figured Isaac would be able to ID. Not much else to add to what else was said.
Thanks Dan, any suggestions on how to clean it?
Don they are made of heavy brass so they are pretty indestructible , you could place it in peroxide for an hour or you could just pick it with a toothpick . Its all a matter of preference .... I personally like the crusty layer off while retaining the patina coloring.I've even seen some guys hit them with a light brass brush
