I have not been able to do all that much detecting this month due to various things. But I knew that yesterday was going to be a nice day in my neck of the woods so I decided to take the day off work and detect all day long.

I visited "Morgan Park" where I and my friend each found a Morgan last year. We both use Etracs and there is not many solid signals left. So I decided I would spend 1 hour there with my deus before I would move on to another spot. I thought that since the deus was faster in the iron I might be able to find some targets that my etrac could not see. So I made a custom program that I got from Calabash Digger. I dug a lot of trash but after about 45 minutes I found a nice worn 1925 merc...only my 2nd silver with this detector. Then near the spot where my friend dug his Morgan I got a faint whispery peep of a signal...it hit in all directions and so I dug down and about 8-9 in the hole I saw a green coin and I knew immediately it was a 2 cent. This one is an 1864. The other side of the coin has a bunch of crude on it unfortunately...but that is how it is.

I then went to the area where I found my Morgan and 10 minutes later I got another faint whispery peep. I dug down and about 8-9 inches down I saw a silver coin! Turned out to be a very nice 1876 S Seated Quarter!

I honestly do not think the Etrac would have found either of these coins as the mineralization and iron is just too intense. I feels great to have some success with the deus as I really only use it at old sites where I wont to dig it all.

After another hour I moved onto a site that has been good to me and I did pretty well there too. Ended up with another merc (1942S), 3 unbelievably toasty Indians (1887, 1902 and 1902), a Canadian LC from the early 1900s that is even more burnt than the Indians, 2 Buffs (1927 and 1936) some junk jewelry and a ring that has a sterling silver band over a 1/20th Gold Filled band. Also found a Sharp Shooter pin.

You hit pay dirt! :clapping:

Congrats on the terrific finds, especially that Seated Quarter! It still has some nice detail left on it. Those don't turn up too often. I bet it was a thrill to find. When something like that comes out of the dirt it makes this hobby all worthwhile!

Way to go!

:congrats:

Wow, congrats on that seated quarter! Very uncommon find like Tony said and still on my bucket list. That 2 center looks sweet too. Looks as though the Deus is killing it for you.

Those are two great finds along with all the other finds. I have to believe a Seated Quarter and 2 center in the same day is not to common. Great finds. WD

Grats on the finds. At least the seated wasn't circulated that long before it was dropped. Sweet two center. Is the back just as good?
The sharpshooter badge was CW or just after, I believe.

The other side of the 2 Cent is very corroded. Do you really think that the sharp shooter badge is CW or just after? I was thinking 60-80 years old maybe. Cool!

Well, my definition of "just after" was 1880s cuz that Kearny cross I got with the CW soldier was made by a company started in 1881 (but changed name in 1888). I knew that they established that kearny cross around the CW. I just verified that the Kearny cross was first used 1862 as a military decoration. I did find your specific one and it was labeled as an M1885 Army badge. One I found had it's earliest date of 1888. But, they could have been used up until the 20's/30's. First link shows the date of 1888. So I wasn't far off.
