I have not been able to do all that much detecting this month due to various things. But I knew that yesterday was going to be a nice day in my neck of the woods so I decided to take the day off work and detect all day long.
I visited "Morgan Park" where I and my friend each found a Morgan last year. We both use Etracs and there is not many solid signals left. So I decided I would spend 1 hour there with my deus before I would move on to another spot. I thought that since the deus was faster in the iron I might be able to find some targets that my etrac could not see. So I made a custom program that I got from Calabash Digger. I dug a lot of trash but after about 45 minutes I found a nice worn 1925 merc...only my 2nd silver with this detector. Then near the spot where my friend dug his Morgan I got a faint whispery peep of a signal...it hit in all directions and so I dug down and about 8-9 in the hole I saw a green coin and I knew immediately it was a 2 cent. This one is an 1864. The other side of the coin has a bunch of crude on it unfortunately...but that is how it is.

I then went to the area where I found my Morgan and 10 minutes later I got another faint whispery peep. I dug down and about 8-9 inches down I saw a silver coin! Turned out to be a very nice 1876 S Seated Quarter!

I honestly do not think the Etrac would have found either of these coins as the mineralization and iron is just too intense. I feels great to have some success with the deus as I really only use it at old sites where I wont to dig it all.
After another hour I moved onto a site that has been good to me and I did pretty well there too. Ended up with another merc (1942S), 3 unbelievably toasty Indians (1887, 1902 and 1902), a Canadian LC from the early 1900s that is even more burnt than the Indians, 2 Buffs (1927 and 1936) some junk jewelry and a ring that has a sterling silver band over a 1/20th Gold Filled band. Also found a Sharp Shooter pin.
