Buttons galore and a suspicious looking CT copper.

Didn't get out of the house until about 08:00 but it was still a bit chilly at 19 F and a good breeze making it feel colder. But a good mile hike to the site and some hand warmers in my mittens were enough to make comfortable. Once again I revisited an old site that me and my buddies and then other folks had pounded the heck out of several years back.

I worked the iron beds close to the foundations and sniffed out another dozen buttons and a copper. That deep round iron sounded too good to ignore.

Got home and cleaned the copper to reveal it was a CT. But I am have suspicions it might not be authentic.

Dan, what do you think? It has that odd die crack looking line between "auctori" and the face. Plus one side of the coin is significantly thinner than the other. And it isn't exactly round.

Dan I thought that raised ridge to the left of the face would give it away but I couldn't find a match with my limited skills.

Al, I was a bit surprised to see a copper come out of the hole because if I recall the VDI was in the mid 60's. I attributed that to the nearby iron pulling down the signal. But at home, that CT reads 77.

Nice finds, Jeff. Boy, it'd be nice to pull a copper from some pounded sites. Yesterday, with the sun going down, the temp dropped quick. Too bad we completely missed the barn site out back, which no hiking goes near those fields.

If I had the book, I might be able to ID it, but the online site doesn't have all a picture for all varieties or give a full description of all 200 variants of the 1787. They list them as the style of the bust (with the few like INDE corrections). None are defined as a primary factor by the crack. It's a secondary factor.

verym nice finds for a hard hit site, nice coin to boot. congrats
